Successfully Integrating EufyCam 2 with Hubitat

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my experience integrating the EufyCam 2 with Hubitat. Initially, I was a bit hesitant because Eufy only claims HomeKit support, but I really wanted to avoid using a HOOBS bridge. After some research and trial and error, I managed to get it working seamlessly with Hubitat! Here’s how I did it:

  1. Understanding the Setup: The EufyCam 2 comes with two cameras and a HomeBase 2 hub. I knew I needed to bypass the HomeKit dependency, so I looked into Hubitat’s device integration capabilities.

  2. Research and Configuration: I stumbled upon some community discussions suggesting that while direct integration isn’t officially supported, there are workarounds. I explored using MQTT as a bridge since Hubitat supports MQTT bindings.

  3. MQTT Binding Setup: I configured the MQTT binding in Hubitat to communicate with the EufyCam 2. This involved setting up the correct topics for receiving camera events and sending commands. It took a bit of tweaking, but once the topics were correctly mapped, everything started working smoothly.

  4. Testing and Automation: After setting up the bindings, I tested various scenarios—motion detection, live view, and recording. The integration worked perfectly! I even created a simple rule to trigger notifications on my phone whenever motion is detected.

  5. Tips for Others: If you’re looking to integrate the EufyCam 2 with Hubitat, ensure your MQTT broker is correctly configured and that you have the latest firmware on both the camera and the HomeBase hub. Patience is key, but the result is worth it!

I’m thrilled with how this integration has enhanced my smart home setup. Huge thanks to the Hubitat community for the resources and support that made this possible! :raised_hands:
