Successfully Integrating Fibaro Smoke Sensors for Enhanced Home Security

I’ve been on a mission to optimize my home security system, and I’m thrilled to share my journey with integrating Fibaro smoke sensors. My goal was to ensure that all my smoke sensors could alert each other in case of an emergency, providing an added layer of safety for my family.

Initially, I faced some challenges. I set up two Fibaro smoke sensors (FGSD002) with the intention that they would trigger each other’s alarms if one detected smoke. I configured the sensors in Habmin, adding the controller to the “Device status” group and the other sensor as a member in both the “FIRE ALARM” and “SMOKE ALARM” groups. However, when I tested the setup by creating some smoke, only the triggered sensor would alarm, and the other remained silent. This was frustrating, especially since the controller did receive notifications for the triggered sensor.

After some research and trial and error, I discovered that the issue might be related to the association groups and how the sensors communicate. I realized that enabling the broadcast parameter could help, so I activated the second and fourth association groups on both sensors. This change allowed the sensors to send alerts to all associated devices, ensuring that both sensors would trigger an alarm when one detected smoke.

To further enhance reliability, I set up a simple automation in my smart home system. Now, if one sensor detects smoke, it not only triggers the other sensor’s alarm but also sends a notification to my smartphone. This ensures that I’m always alerted, regardless of where I am in the house.

The final setup has greatly improved my peace of mind. My home now has a robust smoke detection system that works seamlessly across all sensors. I’m excited to share my experience and hope it can help others looking to enhance their home security systems.
