Successfully Integrating Google Calendar with openHAB

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience integrating Google Calendar with openHAB. As a new user, I was initially overwhelmed by the setup process, but I’m thrilled to share how I overcame the challenges and made it work!

Initially, I encountered difficulties with the OAuth consent screen, which didn’t match the instructions I found online. I was confused about where to start, but after some research and reaching out to the community, I discovered that I needed to register my application first. This was a crucial step that wasn’t clearly outlined in the original guides.

Once I registered my app, I followed the updated instructions to obtain the necessary credentials. I used the Google Calendar Scheduler add-on, which allowed me to sync my calendar events seamlessly with openHAB. The process was a bit time-consuming, but the satisfaction of seeing everything work smoothly made it all worth it!

I also wanted to mention the importance of checking your openHAB version. I realized that some guides were outdated, so ensuring I was using the latest version of openHAB was essential for compatibility. Updating my system beforehand saved me from potential headaches down the line.

This integration has been a game-changer for me. Now, I can automate tasks based on my calendar events, which adds a whole new layer of convenience to my smart home setup. For example, I can set my lights to dim when I have an event or adjust my thermostat based on my schedule. The possibilities are endless!

I hope this experience helps others who are just starting out with openHAB. Remember, don’t hesitate to ask for help and always check for updated guides. The community is incredibly supportive, and with a little persistence, you can achieve amazing results!

Happy automating everyone! :rocket:
