Successfully Integrating Govee Power Strip with Tuya-Convert and ESPHome

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my exciting experience with integrating the Govee AHR-083 Power Strip into my Home Assistant setup using Tuya-Convert and ESPHome. This has been a fantastic addition to my smart home, and I thought I’d walk through the process in case anyone else is interested in trying it out!

First off, I’ve always been a fan of Govee products for their affordability and reliability. The AHR-083 Power Strip, with its 4 controllable outlets, 4 always-on outlets, and USB ports, seemed like a perfect fit for my needs. However, getting it integrated into my existing smart home ecosystem was a bit of a challenge. That’s where Tuya-Convert and ESPHome came into play!

For those unfamiliar with Tuya-Convert, it’s a powerful tool that allows you to reflash third-party smart devices with custom firmware, enabling greater control and integration with platforms like Home Assistant. I followed the excellent guide from this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dyUyewiKpRA) to get started. Once I had Tasmota installed on the power strip, it was time to switch to ESPHome for a more seamless experience.

I created a custom ESPHome configuration to suit my needs. Here’s a quick overview of what I did:

  1. Setup: I connected the power strip to my Wi-Fi network and configured the ESP8266 board. This involved setting up the GPIO pins for the relays and LED indicators.

  2. Switches: I mapped each of the 4 relays to individual switches in Home Assistant, allowing me to control each outlet independently.

  3. LED Integration: I added a blue LED indicator to provide visual feedback when the power strip is in use. This was a nice touch and added a bit of flair to the setup.

  4. Automation: I programmed a button on the power strip to toggle all switches at once. This was done using ESPHome’s automation features, making it incredibly convenient to manage multiple devices with a single press.

The entire process was surprisingly straightforward, especially with the wealth of resources available in the community. I’d like to give a shoutout to @LUNZ for their helpful post on a similar device, which gave me the confidence to proceed.

Since integrating this power strip, I’ve noticed a significant improvement in how my smart home operates. Being able to control each outlet individually has given me a level of granularity I hadn’t previously experienced. Plus, the ability to automate entire routines with the press of a button has been a real game-changer!

If you’re looking to enhance your Home Assistant setup without breaking the bank, I highly recommend exploring Tuya-Convert and ESPHome. They’ve truly opened up a world of possibilities for customizing and integrating smart devices. Happy tinkering everyone! :rocket::sparkles:
