Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent success in integrating my Home Connect devices with Home Assistant. It’s been a journey, but I’m thrilled to have everything working seamlessly now!
The Challenge
I’ve been using Home Assistant for a while now, and I recently decided to add some smart home appliances to my setup. My dishwasher and washing machine are both Home Connect-enabled, so I thought it’d be a breeze to connect them. However, the setup wasn’t as straightforward as I hoped.
Initially, I followed the standard steps: verifying my appliances were online, creating a Home Connect account, and setting up OAuth2 in Home Assistant. But when it came to linking my account, I kept running into errors. The error messages were vague, and I couldn’t figure out why the link wasn’t working. I tried different URLs, checked my credentials repeatedly, and even restarted my router, but nothing seemed to help.
The Solution
After some research and reaching out to the community, I found that the issue was with the redirect URL. I had set it to the default homeassistant.local:8123, but it turns out that Home Connect requires a specific format. I changed the redirect URL to https://my.home-assistant.io/redirect/oauth and retried the linking process. This time, it worked perfectly!
Tips for Others
If you’re trying to integrate Home Connect devices, here are a few tips:
- Double-check your redirect URL. It needs to match exactly what Home Assistant expects.
- Ensure your Home Connect account is properly registered and that your appliances are listed as online.
- If you encounter errors, try clearing your Home Assistant OAuth2 tokens and starting fresh.
The Outcome
Now, I can monitor and control my appliances directly from Home Assistant. It’s incredibly convenient to start a wash cycle from my phone or check the remaining time on my dishwasher. This integration has taken my smart home setup to the next level!
