Successfully Integrating Hue Lights with Motion Sensors for Daytime Automation

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a project I recently completed that has been a huge success. I’ve been working on setting up my kitchen lights to automatically turn on when motion is detected and turn off after 10 minutes of inactivity. However, I didn’t want this automation to run during the day when natural light is sufficient.

After some research and experimentation, I figured out how to set this up using my Hue lights and a motion sensor. The key was using the built-in sunrise and sunset times in Home Assistant. I adjusted the automation to exclude a 15-minute window before sunrise and after sunset, ensuring the lights only activate when it’s dark outside.

This setup has been working perfectly and has made my mornings and evenings much more convenient. I’d love to hear if anyone else has similar automations or tips for optimizing lighting based on natural light availability! :sunrise::bulb:
