I recently decided to integrate my IKEA TRÅDFRI smart controls with my Philips Hue system, and I must say, it was a bit of a journey, but ultimately very rewarding! Here’s how I did it and some tips for anyone looking to do the same.
First off, I had to switch off my lights. I know, it sounds a bit counterintuitive, but it’s a necessary step. Then came the reset process. I quickly pressed the link button four times on the TRÅDFRI control. I had to wait about 10 seconds for it to reset, which felt like an eternity, but patience is key here!
Next, I opened the Hue Essentials app and navigated to the Devices section. Tapping the ‘+’ button and selecting ‘Smart control’ then ‘Other’ was the next step. I remember seeing the Touchlink option here, which was a bit confusing at first, but I pressed on.
Now, the timing was crucial. I pressed and held the link button on my TRÅDFRI control near the Hue bridge. Simultaneously, I pressed the Touchlink button in the Hue Essentials app while still holding the link button on the control. It was a bit of a multitasking challenge, but I managed it!
After releasing the button when the LED turned off, I switched on a light and pressed and held the link button near the light. The light started flashing, and I released the button once it stopped. This process took a few tries, but I got the hang of it.
Finally, I went back to Hue Essentials and tapped ‘Search for lights.’ Success! The light was now connected to my TRÅDFRI controls. It was such a relief to see everything working seamlessly.
For anyone looking to connect multiple lights, I found that switching a light off and on, then repeating the steps for that light worked perfectly. There are also some helpful YouTube videos available if you get stuck, which I found really useful.
Overall, the process was a bit tricky, but with some careful attention to the steps and a little patience, it’s totally doable. My home now feels even smarter, and I can’t wait to explore more integration possibilities!
