Hey everyone! I wanted to share my journey of integrating multiple smart home devices into HomeKit. It’s been quite the adventure, and I’ve learned a few things along the way that I’d love to share with you all. ![]()

My Setup
I’ve always been a fan of mixing and matching different brands to get the perfect setup. Currently, I’ve got a mix of Apple HomeKit, Shelly, Wyze, and even some third-party devices all working together seamlessly. It’s been a learning experience, but the results are amazing!
Challenges and Solutions
One of the biggest hurdles I faced was getting devices from different brands to communicate with each other. For example, I wanted my Wyze cameras to trigger specific automations in HomeKit when motion was detected. After some research, I found that using HomeBridge was the key to bridging the gap between these ecosystems. It allows me to seamlessly integrate devices like Wyze, Shelly, and even some ESPHome devices into my HomeKit setup.
Another challenge was ensuring that all my devices were on the same page when it came to automations. I discovered that setting up Scene Actions in Shortcuts was a game-changer. Now, I can create complex automations that involve multiple devices from different brands, all triggered with a single command. For instance, saying “Hey Siri, Goodnight” turns off all the lights, lowers the thermostat, and arms my security system—all in one go! ![]()

Tips for a Smooth Integration
- Start Small: Don’t try to integrate everything at once. Start with one or two devices and gradually add more as you get comfortable.
- Use a Central Hub: Tools like HomeBridge or even the native HomeKit API can act as your central hub, making integration much easier.
- Test Automations Thoroughly: Before setting them as your daily routine, test your automations multiple times to ensure everything works as expected.
- Keep Firmware Updated: Regularly updating your devices’ firmware can often resolve compatibility issues and improve performance.
A Little Story
One of the most satisfying moments was when I finally got my Shelly switches to work alongside my Apple HomeKit lights. It was like watching all the puzzle pieces come together. Now, I can control my entire lighting system with just my voice or through the Home app, regardless of the brand. It’s truly a seamless experience! ![]()
