Successfully Integrating Multiple Devices Across Subnets

Hello everyone! I’m thrilled to share my recent success in integrating my various smart devices across different subnets. As a newcomer to the world of home automation, I initially faced a bit of a puzzle when my devices, spread across multiple routers and repeaters, refused to connect seamlessly. :joystick:

My setup includes a main router (192.168.0.1), a repeater (192.168.1.1), and several Ethernet switches (192.168.4.1, 192.168.5.1), all essential for covering our two-family home. However, the challenge arose when devices on different subnets couldn’t communicate with each other within my HA system. After some research and trial and error, I discovered the importance of consistent IP addressing and subnet masking. :rocket:

Here’s what worked for me: I ensured that all devices were assigned static IPs within the same subnet range. This allowed my HA system to recognize and manage them collectively. Additionally, adjusting the firewall settings to permit communication across subnets was crucial. :hammer_and_wrench:

I’d love to hear from others who’ve tackled similar challenges or have tips for maintaining a smooth network setup. Happy automating! :star2:
