Successfully Integrating Multiple HomeWizard kWh Meters in Home Assistant

After a lot of trial and error, I finally managed to integrate multiple HomeWizard kWh meters into my Home Assistant setup. Let me share my experience and some tips that might help others facing similar challenges.

I started by enabling the Local API on all my HomeWizard devices, which was straightforward through the HomeWizard Energy app. Initially, everything seemed to work perfectly—data from all meters was flowing into Home Assistant without any issues. However, I noticed repair notifications popping up for each meter, specifically mentioning the need to migrate to the v2 API.

At first, I tried the automatic migration option provided by Home Assistant. Unfortunately, this didn’t work as expected. The migration process failed immediately, leaving me with the same repair messages. I reached out to the community and found that others were experiencing similar issues, especially with more than seven meters.

After some research, I discovered a workaround. Instead of trying to migrate all meters at once, I tackled them one by one. This approach worked like a charm! Each meter was successfully migrated without losing any historical data or existing entities. It was a bit time-consuming, but it was worth it to ensure all my devices were up to date and functioning properly.

Here are a few tips I gathered during this process:

  • Check for Updates: Ensure your Home Assistant is running the latest version, as updates often include bug fixes and improved API support.
  • Manual Migration: If the automatic migration fails, don’t hesitate to migrate devices individually. This method is more controlled and less error-prone.
  • Community Support: Don’t underestimate the power of community forums. Many issues have already been addressed, and you can often find solutions or workarounds shared by other users.

This experience taught me the importance of patience and thorough research when dealing with smart home integrations. It also highlighted how invaluable community support can be in overcoming technical challenges. I’m now fully operational with all my HomeWizard meters, and it feels great to have everything running smoothly again!

If anyone has questions or needs assistance with their HomeWizard setup, feel free to reach out. I’d be happy to help!
