Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience in setting up a unified smart lighting system using Homey. I have a mix of IKEA Tradfri, Innr, and Philips Hue lights in my home, and I was looking for the best way to control them all seamlessly through Homey.
Initially, I was a bit overwhelmed by the options. I considered adding all the lights to the Hue ecosystem and then integrating the Hue bridge with Homey. While this approach works for Philips Hue devices, it didn’t feel like the most efficient way to include my IKEA and Innr lights.
After some research and experimentation, I decided to go with the second option: installing the respective apps for each brand and adding all the lights directly to Homey’s Zigbee network. This method allowed me to maintain full control over each device without relying on a third-party bridge.
The process was surprisingly smooth. Homey’s Zigbee integration made it easy to pair all my devices, and the dedicated apps for each brand provided a consistent and intuitive interface. I especially appreciate the ability to create custom scenes and automations that include lights from all three brands.
If I had to give advice to someone in a similar situation, I’d recommend exploring both options but leaning towards direct Zigbee integration if you have a diverse range of devices. It offers more flexibility and a cleaner setup in the long run.
Overall, I’m thrilled with how everything came together. Homey has proven to be a versatile and reliable hub for my smart home, and I look forward to expanding my setup even further. Thanks to the supportive community for all the helpful tips and guidance! ![]()
