Successfully Integrating Philips WIZ Lights with Hubitat

I’ve recently embarked on a journey to upgrade my home’s lighting system with Philips WIZ downlights, and I must say, it’s been an exciting experience! These lights, priced at around $15 each, offer customizable color temperatures, which immediately caught my eye. However, there was one challenge I wanted to address: physical switch control. Unlike some other smart lights, Philips doesn’t offer a dedicated wall switch, so my existing switch cuts power to the lights. While this isn’t a huge issue because the lights retain their last settings, I wanted a more seamless integration with my smart home setup.

After some research, I discovered that Hubitat supports Philips WIZ through a community app. The next step was figuring out how to control these lights using my existing wall switch. I came across a suggestion to use a Zigbee switch like the Inovelli Z-Wave Switch (Red Series) and have Hubitat relay the on/off commands. This approach seemed perfect because it would allow me to keep my current wall switch while still enjoying the smart features of the WIZ lights.

The process involved setting up the Inovelli switch as a controller within Hubitat. I configured it to send on/off commands to the WIZ lights whenever the physical switch was toggled. This integration was surprisingly straightforward, and the end result is a system that feels both modern and intuitive. The lights now respond instantly to the wall switch, and I can still access all the smart features through my Hubitat app.

This experience has taught me the importance of community-driven solutions and the flexibility of smart home ecosystems. If you’re looking to modernize your lighting without replacing all your switches, I highly recommend exploring similar integrations. It’s a fantastic way to blend old and new technologies seamlessly!

Happy smart home tinkering everyone! :rocket:
