Successfully Integrating Reolink Camera into Home Assistant

I’ve been really excited to add a new Reolink camera to my Home Assistant setup, and I’m thrilled to share how I finally got it all working smoothly! If you’ve struggled with connecting your Reolink camera before, this might be the guide you need.

First, I’ll start by saying that the Reolink RLC-810WA is an incredible piece of hardware. The video quality is top-notch, and the features it offers are impressive. However, getting it integrated into Home Assistant wasn’t as straightforward as I hoped.

Here’s what I learned along the way:

  1. Initial Setup with the Reolink App

    • Connect your camera to your network using the provided Ethernet cable.
    • Power it up and open the Reolink app.
    • Scan the QR code on the back of the camera to begin setup.
    • Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your username, password, and connect to your Wi-Fi network.
  2. Preparing for Home Assistant Integration

    • Once the camera is set up and visible in the app, disconnect the Ethernet cable.
    • Give it a minute or two to fully connect to your Wi-Fi.
    • Open the Reolink app again, navigate to your camera’s settings, and find the network information section.
    • Note down the IP address assigned to your camera.
  3. Adding the Camera to Home Assistant

    • Go to your Home Assistant settings and navigate to Devices & Services.
    • Select ‘Add Integration’ and search for Reolink.
    • Enter the username, password, and IP address you noted earlier.
    • Click submit, and voilà! Your Reolink camera should now be fully integrated into your Home Assistant setup.

A few tips that made the process smoother for me:

  • Ensure your camera’s firmware is up to date before starting the integration.
  • If you’re using HTTPS, make sure to toggle the UPnP and ONVIF settings on your camera’s advanced network settings.
  • Don’t forget to test the camera’s functionality through the Reolink app first to rule out any hardware issues.

I hope this guide helps anyone else looking to add a Reolink camera to their smart home setup. It’s such a rewarding feeling to see everything working seamlessly together! :tada:
