Hi everyone, I wanted to share my recent success in integrating my Samsung TV with OpenHAB and controlling it via the Apple Home app. This journey was both exciting and a bit challenging, but I thought I’d walk through it in case it helps anyone else!
First, I set up OpenHAB 4.1.1 as a Docker container on my Unraid server. It’s been running smoothly so far, and I’m really impressed with its flexibility and community support. I decided to try adding my Samsung TV to OpenHAB using the Samsung TV add-on. The initial setup was straightforward—just adding the TV as a Thing and connecting the items to the right channels.
However, I ran into a snag when trying to add the necessary HomeKit metadata. I couldn’t find the Television characteristics I needed on the integration help page. At first, I was a bit puzzled and worried I might have missed something obvious. But after some research and reaching out to the community, I discovered that the issue was related to the configuration of the add-on and ensuring the right metadata was properly set.
After some tweaking and consulting the forums, I finally got everything working! Now, I can control my TV seamlessly through the Apple Home app, which is such a neat integration. It’s amazing how all these smart devices come together to enhance my home experience.
I’d like to thank the OpenHAB community for their invaluable resources and support. It’s inspiring to see how passionate everyone is about creating and sharing solutions. If anyone else is looking to integrate their Samsung TV or other devices, I highly recommend checking out OpenHAB and the Apple Home integration—it’s definitely worth the effort!
Happy tinkering everyone! ![]()
