As a homeowner looking to enhance my smart home setup, I recently decided to integrate a Schlage FE599 Z-Wave lock with my Vera 2 hub. The journey was filled with challenges, but ultimately rewarding. Here’s how I made it work!
The Challenge:
I started by updating my Vera 2’s MIOS firmware to the latest version, thinking that would resolve any connectivity issues. However, the Schlage lock kept showing a red blinking error during the binding process. Frustrated but determined, I dug deeper into troubleshooting.
The Solution:
After extensive research, I discovered that the Vera 2’s Z-Wave locale was set to Europe instead of the US. This mismatch was preventing the lock from binding properly. I modified the /etc/cmh/zwave_locale file via SSH to switch the region to US. This simple change made all the difference!
Final Configuration:
- I ensured the Vera 2 was set to use Z-Wave version 2.78 and disabled MiOS routing.
- The binding process took a few seconds, with the lock’s LED turning green upon success.
Results:
Now, my Schlage lock seamlessly integrates with Vera 2, allowing me to control it through the Vera app and automate it with my existing smart home devices. It’s a great addition to my security setup!
