Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent success in setting up a smart blinds automation using both Shelly and Sonoff devices. After some research and trial and error, I managed to create a seamless system that automatically adjusts my blinds based on the time of day and occupancy sensors. Here’s how I did it:
First, I chose the Shelly Plus 2PM for its built-in cover support, which made it easy to set the opening and closing times directly through the app. I paired it with my existing Sonoff ZBMini Zigbee switches, which acted as routers to extend the Zigbee network coverage throughout my home.
To ensure smooth operation, I created a simple automation in Home Assistant that triggers the blinds to open at sunrise and close at sunset. I also added a condition to check if anyone is home using my existing occupancy sensors. This way, the blinds only adjust when someone is present, saving energy and avoiding unnecessary movements.
One challenge I faced was configuring the Sonoff devices without using the Tuya app. However, by setting up a Zigbee2MQTT integration, I was able to fully control them through Home Assistant. The Shelly devices were a breeze to set up, and their integration with Home Assistant was flawless.
I’m really happy with how this project turned out. It’s been running smoothly for a week now, and it’s been a great way to automate my morning routine without any intervention. If anyone has questions or needs help setting up something similar, feel free to reach out!
