Successfully Integrating Shelly Devices with IFTTT Automation

Hi all, I wanted to share my recent experience integrating Shelly devices with IFTTT to create a seamless automation setup in my home. It’s been a journey of learning and tweaking, but the results have been fantastic!

The Setup
I recently purchased a Shelly 1 Mini and a Shelly Plug S to automate some of my home’s lighting and appliance control. The goal was to create a system where I could control these devices through voice commands using my existing smart speakers, as well as set up some basic automations based on my daily routines.

The Challenge
At first, I was a bit overwhelmed by the number of settings and integrations available. I knew I wanted to use IFTTT for its simplicity and versatility, but I wasn’t sure how to connect it with the Shelly devices. After some research, I discovered that IFTTT works seamlessly with Shelly through their webhooks feature. This was a game-changer!

The Solution
Here’s how I set it up:

  1. Webhooks Integration: I started by enabling the webhook feature on my Shelly devices. This allowed me to send commands to the devices via HTTP requests.
  2. IFTTT Applets: I created several applets in IFTTT to handle different scenarios. For example, one applet turns on the living room lights when I say, “Hey Google, it’s movie night.” Another applet turns off the coffee maker after 30 minutes to save energy.
  3. Voice Commands: I mapped these applets to specific voice commands using my smart speakers. This made the system incredibly user-friendly.

The Results
The integration has been a huge success! I now have a fully automated system that saves me time and energy. Here are some of the benefits I’ve noticed:

  • Convenience: I can control my devices hands-free, which is especially useful when I’m multitasking.
  • Energy Efficiency: The automations help me conserve energy by turning off devices when they’re not in use.
  • Customization: I can easily tweak the applets to suit my changing needs.

Tips for Others
If you’re considering integrating Shelly devices with IFTTT, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

  1. Start Small: Begin with one or two devices and gradually expand your setup as you become more comfortable.
  2. Experiment with Applets: Don’t be afraid to create and test different applets. IFTTT’s interface is intuitive, and it’s easy to make changes.
  3. Use Webhooks: This feature is a powerful way to connect Shelly devices with IFTTT and other services.

Final Thoughts
I’m really impressed with how well Shelly devices work with IFTTT. It’s given me the flexibility to create a smart home system that truly meets my needs. If you’re looking to automate your home without the hassle, I highly recommend giving this integration a try!

Happy automating! :rocket:
