Successfully Integrating Shelly Plug S with Scenes and Notifications

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent success in integrating a Shelly Plug S with my home automation setup. I’ve been trying to get it to send push notifications when my washing machine finishes, and after some trial and error, I finally got it working! Here’s my journey and some tips for anyone tackling a similar project.

Initially, I followed the guide from YouTube and the community forums, but I wasn’t getting any notifications. I checked the logs and noticed that the notifications weren’t being triggered. I tried adding an event log entry as a backup, but that also didn’t work. The only logs I saw were about the Shelly Plug S turning on and off.

I decided to dig deeper into the settings. I realized that the notification configuration might need a specific payload or topic. I tried modifying the notification settings to include a custom payload, and voilà! The notifications started coming through.

Here’s what I learned:

  1. Check Notification Settings: Ensure that your notification service (like Pushover or Telegram) is correctly configured in your automation system. Sometimes, a simple typo can prevent notifications from being sent.

  2. Custom Payloads: Don’t hesitate to use custom payloads if the default settings aren’t working. This can sometimes be the key to getting notifications to trigger correctly.

  3. Log Monitoring: Keep an eye on your logs. They can provide invaluable clues about why something isn’t working as expected.

  4. Community Resources: Don’t underestimate the power of community forums and YouTube tutorials. They’re goldmines of information, and even if a guide doesn’t work out of the box, it can give you a great starting point.

Now, every time my washing machine finishes, I get a push notification, and I can check the status without having to walk down to the laundry room. It’s a small but incredibly convenient automation.

If anyone else is struggling with notifications or scene triggers, feel free to reach out! I’d be happy to help troubleshoot or share more details about my setup.

Happy automating!
