After spending several weeks researching and planning, I finally managed to integrate smart lighting across multiple rooms in my home! It’s been an incredible journey, and I wanted to share my experience with the community in case it helps someone else.
The Setup:
I started with a mix of Govee and Philips Hue bulbs, aiming for a seamless integration with my Home Assistant setup. The challenge was ensuring compatibility across different Zigbee and Wi-Fi protocols, but I managed to bridge everything using the Zigbee2MQTT plugin. The process was a bit tricky, especially with pairing some of the Govee devices, but the results have been worth it.
Key Tips:
- Plan Ahead: Create a layout of your home and note where each bulb will go. This helps in choosing the right type of bulb for each room.
- Use Scenes: I’ve set up multiple scenes for different times of the day—morning wake-up lights, evening relaxation modes, and night routines. This has transformed how I experience my home.
- Battery Management: For battery-powered devices, ensure you have a reliable monitoring system in place. I use the Home Assistant battery sensors to keep track.
Challenges and Solutions:
One issue I faced was inconsistent brightness levels across bulbs of the same model. After some research, I discovered that adjusting the Zigbee2MQTT settings to optimize brightness curves solved the problem. It’s amazing how a small tweak can make such a big difference!
The Outcome:
My home now feels like a smart ecosystem where lighting adapts to my needs. Whether it’s a cozy evening with dimmed lights or bright mornings to wake up to, everything works seamlessly. I’m particularly happy with how the Govee bulbs handle color transitions—they’re smooth and vibrant.
If anyone is planning a similar project, I’d highly recommend starting small, testing each component, and gradually expanding. The sense of accomplishment when everything works together is unparalleled!
Happy smart lighting to all! ![]()
