I’ve recently embarked on a journey to upgrade my home’s lighting system, and I must say, it’s been an enlightening experience!
Starting with the basics, I wanted to replace my outdated incandescent cabinet lights with something smarter and more energy-efficient. After researching several options, I decided to go with Philips Hue for its seamless integration with Home Assistant and its wide range of features. ![]()

One of the challenges I faced was connecting my Philips Hue bridge to Home Assistant. Initially, I encountered an ‘Unknown linking error occurred,’ which was quite frustrating. However, after some troubleshooting and reinstalling the Home Assistant Docker container, I managed to get everything up and running. It was a relief to see the bridge appear in the states page and successfully integrate it into my setup. ![]()
For my kitchen, I aimed to create a dynamic lighting setup. Under the cabinets, I installed dimmable white LED strips for task lighting, which provide a soft glow perfect for meal prep. Over the cabinets, I opted for RGBW LEDs to add a touch of ambiance. I’m excited about the possibility of making them dance to music during parties—though I’m still figuring out the best way to sync them with my playlist. ![]()

Inside the cabinets, I replaced the problematic puck lights with smart LED puck lights that offer better efficiency and reliability. The wiring was a bit tight, but using flexible LED strips made the installation much smoother. ![]()
