I’ve been on a journey to optimize my home’s energy efficiency using smart devices, and I’m thrilled to share my success story! ![]()
After researching various options, I decided to integrate my new Tado X Smart Thermostat with motion sensors from my existing setup. The goal was to ensure that the heating kicks in only when someone is present in the room, thereby saving energy and reducing costs.
Here’s how I did it:
-
Setup and Configuration: I started by connecting the Tado X thermostat to my Home Assistant using the Matter protocol. It was a breeze to set up, and I immediately noticed three entities: the thermostat itself, a humidity sensor, and a configuration entity.
-
Motion Sensors Integration: I paired the thermostat with motion sensors in key areas of my home. This allowed me to create an automation where the thermostat adjusts the temperature based on detected motion. For example, if no motion is detected for 30 minutes, the thermostat lowers the temperature by a few degrees.
-
Temperature Graphing: One of the features I was most excited about was the ability to graph the inside temperature against the outside temperature. Initially, I was a bit puzzled about how to access the inside temperature data, but I discovered it was available through the thermostat’s control entity. This has been incredibly helpful for monitoring and optimizing my heating schedule.
-
Energy Savings and Comfort: The results have been fantastic! Not only have I noticed a reduction in my energy bills, but the system also ensures that the house is warm and comfortable when we’re back. It’s a win-win situation!
If you’re looking to enhance your home’s energy efficiency, I highly recommend exploring the integration of smart thermostats with motion sensors. It’s a simple yet effective way to make a significant impact. Let me know if you have any questions or tips to share! ![]()
