Successfully Integrating SmartThings and Ring Hub for Schlage Lock Control

Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with integrating my Schlage Camelot lock with both SmartThings and the Ring Security Hub. Initially, I was a bit concerned about compatibility since I’ve heard mixed things about using multiple hubs, but I’m happy to say it worked out smoothly!

I started by setting up the Schlage lock with SmartThings, which was straightforward thanks to their Z-Wave integration. Everything worked as expected—automations, notifications, and even voice control through Alexa. But then I decided to add the Ring Hub to enhance my security setup, especially for motion sensors and cameras.

The challenge came when I tried to include the Schlage lock into the Ring ecosystem. At first, it seemed like the lock lost its connection to SmartThings, which was a bit worrying. But after some research and trial and error, I discovered that the key was to ensure both hubs were on the same network and that the lock was properly configured in both systems.

Here’s what I learned:

  • Firmware Updates: Make sure all your devices are on the latest firmware. Schlage regularly updates their software, and it made a big difference in stability.
  • Network Configuration: Place your hubs in central locations to avoid signal interference. I moved mine to a more open area, and it improved connectivity significantly.
  • Dual Integration: It’s possible to have the same device work with multiple hubs, but you need to manage the configurations carefully. I ended up creating separate routines for each hub to avoid conflicts.

Now, I have the best of both worlds—SmartThings for smart home integrations and Ring for enhanced security. My Schlage lock responds seamlessly to both systems, and I haven’t had any issues since setting it up properly.

If anyone else is looking to integrate multiple hubs, I’d highly recommend starting with a single device like a lock or sensor to test the waters. It’s a great way to ensure everything works harmoniously before expanding your setup.

Would love to hear if others have similar experiences or tips for multi-hub setups!
