Successfully Integrating SmartThings Hub with Yale Smart Lock

After spending several hours researching and troubleshooting, I’m thrilled to share my success in integrating my SmartThings hub with a Yale Smart Lock! :tada:

My Journey:
I recently upgraded my home security system and decided to go with the Yale Smart Lock for its sleek design and seamless integration capabilities. However, getting it to work with my existing SmartThings setup wasn’t as straightforward as I hoped.

The Challenge:
Initially, I faced issues with the lock not responding consistently to commands from the SmartThings app. After some digging, I realized the problem stemmed from conflicting network settings. My Wi-Fi router was set to a 5GHz band by default, but the Yale lock operates best on the 2.4GHz band for reliable connectivity.

The Solution:
Here’s what worked for me:

  1. Switch to 2.4GHz Band: I temporarily switched my router to the 2.4GHz band using the Eero mesh system. This ensured a stable connection between the lock and the hub.
  2. Force Reconnection: I unlinked the lock from the SmartThings app, performed a factory reset on the lock, and started the pairing process fresh. This time, everything connected smoothly!
  3. Custom Automations: Now that it’s integrated, I’ve set up some cool automations. For example, the lock automatically unlocks when I’m within 50 feet of my front door, thanks to geofencing. It even sends me a notification if the door is left open for more than 30 seconds.
