Hey everyone! I wanted to share my recent success in integrating my Sonos speakers with Hubitat and Spotify. While the process had its hurdles, the outcome was well worth the effort. 
I have five rooms equipped with Sonos speakers, and my goal was to achieve seamless control across all of them. I wanted the ability to turn speakers on/off individually or as groups, adjust volumes, select favorite playlists, and even see what’s currently playing—all from my tablet or dashboard. Bonus points if I could integrate this with my Amazon Echo/Alexa setup!
Initially, I faced some challenges with the Sonos Integration app in Hubitat. The main issues were controlling each zone independently and ensuring that the system played the correct playlist without relying on the last played song. After some research and trial and error, I found a workaround by utilizing the URL-based option for playing music, even though it wasn’t immediately obvious how to use it with Spotify.
Here’s a quick summary of what worked for me:
- Group Control: I created custom groups in Hubitat for each room, which allowed me to control multiple speakers simultaneously without interference.
- Playlist Integration: By setting up specific Spotify playlists as favorites in the Sonos app, I could easily switch between them using Hubitat.
- Alexa Integration: Using routines in Alexa, I linked voice commands to trigger specific actions in Hubitat, such as starting a playlist or adjusting the volume.
The key takeaway here is that while the setup might seem daunting at first, breaking it down into smaller tasks and leveraging the community resources made all the difference. I’m now enjoying a fully integrated music system that’s both intuitive and powerful!
