Successfully Integrating Wyze Switch and Plug for Elderly Care

It’s truly amazing how much smarter my parents’ home has become with the help of Wyze devices. My dad, who has Parkinson’s and Lewy Body Dementia, often struggles with misplaced items, especially his reading light. I wanted to make his life easier without adding more gadgets for him to misplace. That’s when I thought of using a Wyze switch to control a Wyze plug.

I was a bit nervous about the wiring, but I decided to extend an existing switch box and add a gang. I made sure to pigtail off the constant hot and tie into the neutral bundle since the switch wouldn’t directly control the power. After some research and testing, it worked perfectly! Now, pressing the switch turns on the light, and I set up an automation so that the light turns off after 15 minutes of inactivity.

This setup has been a game-changer for my dad. He no longer needs to remember where he placed the remote, and my mom, as his caregiver, appreciates the simplicity of it all. It’s moments like these that remind me how technology can truly make a difference in quality of life.

If anyone else is looking to do something similar, I’d recommend starting with a simple automation script. Just make sure to test everything thoroughly before making any permanent changes to the wall. Happy automating everyone! :star2:
