After spending quite some time configuring my Zigbee devices, I thought I’d share my experience in case it helps others. I have a mix of devices paired with different hubs—Tuya, SmartThings, and even some USB extenders. The challenge was to consolidate everything under the ZBT-2 without re-pairing all my devices.
Initially, I was worried about the process, but here’s what worked for me:
-
Understanding the ZBT-2 Role: It acts as the central controller, so all devices need to be paired with it. While it was a bit tedious to re-pair everything, especially the light switches, it was manageable.
-
Using Existing Hubs as Extenders: I was pleasantly surprised that my old hubs could still function as Zigbee routers. This saved me from having to invest in new hardware.
-
Mesh Network Benefits: The mesh network created by ZBT-2 is robust. Devices communicate seamlessly, and the range has improved significantly.
-
No More Internet Dependency: It’s a relief to have everything controlled locally through HA without relying on the internet.
If you’re considering upgrading to ZBT-2, my advice is to take it step by step. Re-pairing might seem daunting, but the benefits of a unified, reliable system are worth it. Happy configuring! ![]()
