Successfully Integrating Zigbee Lighting with Existing Switches

Setting up smart lighting in my home has been an exciting journey, especially with the goal of maintaining the existing light switches for family convenience. I recently explored integrating Zigbee lights, such as Hue and Tradfri, with my current setup. Initially, I faced challenges in finding the right in-wall modules that could work seamlessly without relying on Wi-Fi, which I wanted to avoid due to potential network instability with multiple devices. After some research, I discovered the importance of using a Zigbee in-wall module that acts as a remote control, sending signals to Home Assistant to switch scenes. This approach not only preserves the existing switches but also enhances the smart home experience by expanding the Zigbee mesh network. I was thrilled when the module communicated effectively with my Zigbee devices, eliminating the need for additional Wi-Fi connections. One tip I learned was to ensure the module is positioned to act as a router, which significantly improved the network’s reliability. This setup allowed me to control the lights effortlessly through voice commands and the Home Assistant app, all while keeping the physical switches functional. If anyone has successfully integrated a similar setup or has tips for optimizing Zigbee mesh performance, I’d love to hear your experiences!
