Successfully Migrating Philips Hue Smart Strips to V3 Hub

I recently had the opportunity to migrate my Philips Hue smart strips from a V2 SmartThings hub to a V3 hub, and I thought I’d share my experience in case it helps anyone else facing a similar challenge. While the process wasn’t entirely smooth, it taught me a few valuable lessons about troubleshooting and persistence.

Initially, I encountered the same issue as many others—my Hue smart strips weren’t showing up in the V3 hub or the SmartThings app. After some research, I discovered that the strips needed to be reset to connect with the new hub. Unfortunately, finding a reliable method to reset them proved tricky. I tried power cycling, but that didn’t work. I also read about using a remote, but I didn’t have one on hand.

After some trial and error, I stumbled upon a solution that worked for me. I used the Hue Bridge app to factory reset the strips. This involved holding down the button on the strip until the LED started flashing, which indicated it was in pairing mode. Once they were reset, I was able to add them to the V3 hub without any issues. While this process was a bit time-consuming, it was ultimately successful.

This experience reinforced the importance of carefully following reset procedures and not getting discouraged by initial setbacks. I’m now happy to report that my Hue strips are fully functional with the V3 hub, and I’m enjoying the improved performance and reliability that the new hub offers.

If anyone else is struggling with similar issues, I’d recommend checking out the official Hue and SmartThings forums for additional troubleshooting tips. It’s also worth considering reaching out to the community for support—sometimes a fresh perspective can make all the difference!

Happy smart home tinkering!
