Successfully Migrating to Hubitat: A Z-Wave Journey

After spending months with Vera, I decided to make the switch to Hubitat for its robust ecosystem and flexibility. With around 50 devices, including a mix of Z-Wave Plus and older GE/Jasco switches, the transition wasn’t without its bumps.

Initially, I paired devices starting from the hub, moving outward to ensure optimal signal strength. However, some devices were sluggish, taking seconds to minutes to respond. Running the Z-Wave repair utility became a routine, but each session revealed failed nodes, leaving me wondering if persistence would eventually fix the issue.

I also pondered the impact of HomeKit and HomeBridge on system performance. After extensive troubleshooting, I realized the importance of a clean Z-Wave network topology. Regularly running repairs, physically moving the hub near devices during pairing, and replacing problematic sensors were key steps that gradually improved responsiveness.

The journey taught me the value of patience and thorough testing. While the system isn’t yet flawless, it’s significantly more reliable now. I’m excited to continue optimizing and exploring Hubitat’s capabilities!
