Hi everyone, I wanted to share my experience with pairing my GE/Jasco Z-Wave dimmer switch after upgrading my home automation setup. I recently switched to the Zooz 700 S2 stick and Z-Wave JS, and while most of my older devices paired without issues, this particular dimmer switch was giving me some trouble. I thought I’d document my journey in case anyone else runs into similar issues.
Initially, I tried the standard inclusion process, but the switch kept showing up as a dead node. After some research, I realized that resetting the switch might help. I followed the reset protocol—three taps up and three taps down—and the LED indicated a successful reset. I then attempted inclusion again, both standard and advanced, but it still didn’t work.
I decided to dig deeper into the logs and noticed that the issue was with configuring the Z-Wave+ Lifeline association. The logs showed repeated failed attempts to send commands, resulting in the node being marked as dead. This made me think that maybe the switch wasn’t compatible with the new controller’s security settings or that there was a communication issue.
After some troubleshooting, I came across a suggestion to disable security temporarily during inclusion. I tried this approach, and voilà! The switch paired successfully. Once paired, I re-enabled security and everything worked as intended. It turns out the switch didn’t support the new security handshake, and disabling it temporarily was the key.
For anyone else struggling with similar issues, here are a few tips:
- Always check the device logs for specific error messages.
- Try resetting the device to ensure it’s in a clean state.
- Experiment with different inclusion methods, including disabling security temporarily.
- Don’t hesitate to reach out to the community for advice; someone might have encountered the same issue.
It was a bit of a rollercoaster, but solving the problem gave me a great sense of accomplishment. Now, my dimmer switch is working perfectly with my upgraded setup, and I’m back to enjoying seamless control over my lighting. Happy automating everyone! ![]()
