Successfully Resizing My Geofence: A Helpful Guide

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my experience with resizing my geofence, as I found it a bit tricky at first. I hope this helps someone else out there!

I recently upgraded to a Google Nexus 4 and decided to adjust my geofence to better suit my densely populated area. The default geofence was quite large—about 8 blocks in diameter—which wasn’t ideal for my needs. I wanted something more precise to avoid unnecessary alerts.

At first, I was a bit confused about how to resize it. I tapped on the map to edit my home location, and the red geofence circle appeared. There was a black dot at the bottom of the circle, and when I clicked on it, I got a message saying, ‘Geofence Drag handle to resize geofence.’ But no matter how I tried dragging, the geofence wouldn’t change size—it just zoomed in or out on the map.

After some trial and error, I figured out the secret! Instead of dragging the black dot, I needed to pinch and zoom on the geofence circle itself. This allowed me to adjust the size precisely to my liking. It was such a relief once I got the hang of it!

For those who prefer using their desktop, you can access your geofence settings through your browser. Simply log into your account, navigate to the geofence section, and adjust the radius there. It’s a bit more straightforward and avoids the hassle of dealing with touch controls.

Here’s a quick step-by-step guide for anyone struggling with this:

  1. Open your smart home app and navigate to the settings.
  2. Locate the geofence option—this is usually under location or security settings.
  3. Tap to edit your home location on the map.
  4. Pinch and zoom on the geofence circle to resize it to your desired area.
  5. Save your changes and test it out to ensure it works as expected.

If you’re still having trouble, don’t hesitate to ask for help in the forums. There are plenty of friendly folks here who are happy to assist!

Happy geofencing! :earth_africa::sparkles:
