Successfully Resolved Vera 2 Device Polling Issue

Hello Vera community,

I wanted to share my experience and solution regarding the device polling issue on Vera 2. I’ve been using Vera for quite some time now, and while it’s a fantastic hub, I’ve encountered a recurring problem with device polling. Specifically, Vera takes an unusually long time to poll devices, and sometimes it doesn’t complete the poll at all. This has been quite frustrating, especially since manually initiating a poll yields immediate results on the Vera dashboard.

After extensive research and troubleshooting, I discovered that adjusting the polling settings and optimizing the network configuration significantly improved the situation. Here’s what I did:

  1. Checked Network Configuration: Ensured that Vera was connected to a stable network with minimal latency. Sometimes, network issues can cause delays in device communication.

  2. Adjusted Polling Settings: Vera allows users to configure polling intervals for individual devices. I found that reducing the polling interval for frequently accessed devices and increasing it for less critical ones helped balance performance without overwhelming the hub.

  3. Updated Firmware: Updating Vera to the latest firmware version (1047 in my case) introduced several improvements in device communication and stability. It’s always a good idea to keep your firmware up to date to benefit from the latest bug fixes and optimizations.

  4. Reviewed Device Integration: Some devices might have specific requirements or known issues with Vera. I reviewed the integration settings for each device and ensured they were correctly configured according to Vera’s guidelines.

  5. Optimized Device Load: If you have a large number of devices connected to Vera, it might be beneficial to optimize the load by grouping devices or using scene automation to reduce the number of simultaneous polling requests.

By implementing these steps, I noticed a significant improvement in Vera’s ability to poll devices efficiently. The polling time decreased, and the issue of incomplete polls became much less frequent.

I’d like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Vera community for their invaluable support and resources. It’s communities like this that make troubleshooting and resolving issues much more manageable.

If anyone else is experiencing similar challenges, I highly recommend exploring these solutions. Happy automating!
