Hey everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with the SmartLock4 Pro and how I managed to resolve a connectivity issue that was quite perplexing at first. I hope this might help others who are facing similar problems!
A few weeks ago, I installed the SmartLock4 Pro and was initially thrilled with its performance. The firmware update went smoothly, and both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connections were stable. Integration with my HomeAssistant setup via Mosquitto worked like a charm, even though the lock was on a different VLAN. Everything seemed to be running perfectly until a few days later when I noticed an odd behavior.
The lock’s buttons became unresponsive, and eventually, all associated entities in HomeAssistant went offline, despite the Nuki app continuing to function normally. This inconsistency was puzzling, and I decided to dig deeper into the issue.
After some research and reaching out to the community, I discovered that others had experienced similar problems. The key insight was that the lock’s MQTT connection was timing out, leading to disconnections. To address this, I found that manually saving the MQTT settings in the Nuki app forced a reconnect, temporarily resolving the issue. However, this was a workaround, not a permanent solution.
I then looked into the Mosquitto broker logs and noticed a recurring pattern: the lock would connect, remain active for a while, and then disconnect due to a timeout. This led me to explore the possibility of adjusting the MQTT keepalive settings. Increasing the keepalive interval from the default 300 seconds to a higher value (I settled on 600 seconds) seemed to make a difference. The lock now stays connected for longer periods, and the unresponsiveness issue has significantly reduced.
Another adjustment I made was ensuring that the lock’s Wi-Fi settings were optimized. I switched the Wi-Fi mode to Compatibility Mode and set the battery optimization to Performance, which further stabilized the connection.
While the problem isn’t entirely resolved, these changes have made a noticeable improvement. I’m hopeful that with time, any lingering issues will be ironed out through software updates or additional tweaks.
This experience has been a great learning opportunity, emphasizing the importance of thorough troubleshooting and the value of community support. I’m grateful to everyone who shared their insights and solutions, which were instrumental in helping me navigate this challenge!
If anyone else is dealing with similar issues, I encourage you to check your MQTT settings and ensure your device’s network configurations are optimized. Happy tinkering! ![]()
