Successfully Resolving Device Tracking Issues

Hey everyone! I wanted to share a little story about my recent experience with device tracking in Home Assistant. It’s been such a journey, but I’m thrilled to say I figured it out! :tada:

So, here’s the deal: I set up my phone as a tracked device using the Mobile App. Everything was working perfectly—I could see my location on the map, and it was super accurate. But then, after adding some family members and tweaking a few settings, my phone stopped showing up on the map. My wife’s phone was having the same issue, which was pretty frustrating.

I started by checking the device_tracker entity for my phone. It showed me as ‘home’ with the correct latitude and longitude, so the data was there. But why wasn’t it showing up on the map? I tried reverting some changes, like removing the custom ‘home’ radius I had set, but that didn’t fix it. I even restarted the app and the whole system, but nothing changed. Ugh! :person_facepalming::female_sign:

After some research and digging through the forums, I realized the issue might be with how the map integration was configured. I went back into the settings and noticed that the map wasn’t set to display all tracked devices by default. Once I adjusted that, voilà! My phone and my wife’s phone popped back up on the map. What a relief!

This whole experience taught me the importance of double-checking integrations and settings, especially after making changes. It also highlighted how helpful the community is—without those forum posts, I might still be scratching my head.

If anyone else is having trouble with device tracking, here are a few tips:

  • Always verify that your tracked devices are correctly configured in the integration settings.
  • Check the entity attributes to ensure the location data is being updated.
  • Don’t hesitate to restart components or the entire system if you’re stuck.

Happy automating, everyone! Let’s keep those devices tracked and the map updated! :globe_with_meridians::sparkles:
