Successfully Resolving Z-Wave Device Control Issues After Renaming

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a bit of my recent experience with Z-Wave devices in Home Assistant. After using Z-Wave without any issues for about a year, I decided to rename all my devices to Swedish names, including using special characters like å, ä, and ö. It seemed like a straightforward task, but I ran into some unexpected problems. After renaming both the entity IDs and friendly names, I noticed that while all my sensors continued to work perfectly, I could no longer control about 11 out of my 15 Z-Wave devices. The devices that were still controllable had the cogwheel icon visible when I clicked on them, while the others did not. This was quite puzzling since the sensors were working fine.I started troubleshooting by checking if the Z-Stick was functioning correctly. It turned out to be working fine, as I could still control the devices that hadn’t lost functionality. I also considered the possibility of network issues, but everything seemed to be in order there as well. After some research and trial and error, I discovered that the issue might be related to the use of special characters in the device names. To test this theory, I decided to rename the problematic devices again, this time avoiding the use of any special characters. To my delight, this resolved the issue, and I could once again control all my Z-Wave devices. This experience taught me the importance of keeping device names simple, especially when working with different systems and languages. It’s a good reminder to avoid special characters in entity names to prevent unexpected issues.I hope this story helps someone else who might be facing similar challenges. It’s always reassuring to know that even when things seem complicated, sometimes the solution is as simple as adjusting the names of your devices.Happy automating everyone! :rocket:
