Hi all, I wanted to share my recent experience setting up water meter monitoring using AMR2MQTT with Home Assistant. It was a bit of a learning curve, but I’m thrilled with the results! ![]()
After setting up HA on my Raspberry Pi 5 last year, I decided to take it a step further by adding a rtl-sdr device to monitor my Neptune R900i water meter. The goal was to track water usage and get notifications if there was a leak. The installation process took about 8 hours over two days—mostly due to the steep learning curve of HA’s configuration. At one point, I almost switched to Linux to simplify things, but I’m glad I stuck with HA!
One challenge I faced was setting up an automation to notify me if the water leak flag stayed at ‘1’ for 12 hours. The error message about a malformed message was confusing at first, but after some trial and error, I figured out the issue with the automation’s YAML configuration. It was a great learning experience, and I appreciate the community for maintaining such a robust platform.
Now that everything is up and running, I can monitor my water usage in real-time and rest assured that I’ll be alerted if there’s a leak. It’s amazing how technology can help us be more mindful of our resource usage.
感激之情溢于言表,感谢HA社区的支持!
If anyone else is looking to set up similar monitoring, I’d be happy to share my configuration details or troubleshoot any issues. Happy automating! ![]()
