Successfully Troubleshooting Google Wifi Registration Issue

Hello everyone, I wanted to share my recent experience with the Google Wifi registration issue. A few weeks ago, one of my Google Wifi points stopped registering after a factory reset. The error message I encountered was OOBE_PROCESSING_PLATFORM_REGISTRATION_INFO_ERROR, which was quite frustrating. Despite trying multiple resets, changing DNS settings, and monitoring the local API, the issue persisted.

After reaching out to Google Nest support, I learned that this is a known issue affecting Google Wifi devices. However, I didn’t want to give up on reusing this perfectly good device. I decided to dig deeper and explore possible workarounds.

Here’s what finally worked for me:

  1. Factory Reset Again: I performed a full factory reset, ensuring the LED turned solid white or started flashing blue.
  2. Check for Firmware Updates: I made sure the device was running the latest firmware version.
  3. Test on a New Network: I tried adding the device to a completely new network to rule out any configuration conflicts.
  4. Clear Browser Cache: Sometimes, cached data can interfere with the setup process. Clearing my browser cache and cookies helped.
  5. Use Incognito Mode: I attempted the setup process using an incognito window to ensure no cookies or extensions were causing issues.

After several attempts, the device finally registered successfully! It was a mix of relief and satisfaction. I’m glad I didn’t give up and managed to resolve the issue without replacing the device.

I hope this helps anyone else facing the same problem. A huge thank you to the Google Nest support team for their assistance, and to the community for sharing valuable insights. It’s great to be part of such a supportive and knowledgeable group!

Happy troubleshooting everyone! :rocket:
