Suggestion for U300

I really love the u300 and am using it for an outdoor gate. I’m looking to make a custom rain shield for it, but you really need to make locks that have a higher IP66 rating. The photos online seem to suggest sun or rain exposure will damage these units.

@boback Thanks for sharing your love for the U300 and the details of using it on your outdoor gate—it’s great to hear how you’re integrating it into your space!

Regarding the IP rating concern, the Aqara Smart Door Lock U300 currently has an IPX3 rating. For optimal outdoor performance, we do recommend installing it under a protective cover or shield, which aligns with your plan to create a custom rain shield.

We appreciate your suggestion for a higher IP66 rating! To ensure your feedback is properly collected, please submit your improvement ideas through the Aqara Home App Customer Service Team (Profile> Help & Feedback > Customer Service) or scan the QR code:

Thank you for your suggestion. We will take outdoor environments into account in our future products. Could you please tell us the typical outdoor temperature range where you are? Besides rain, are there any special requirements regarding snowfall?

I live in LA, very little rain generally, fog, and temperatures are 45-90 generally. Mostly 60-80s.

Made custom rain and shade guards to hopefully keep this lock working

I’m curious about this too. How did you make those shade guards? I’ve searched for Etsy products that might exist for a 3d printed cover or something but haven’t found anything. I may have to just get some sheet metal from Lowe’s or something and make something like this. I live in Arkansas and the lock is on an outside westward facing door and isn’t immune from rain and some late evening direct sunlight. I’m worried that it might wear the lock screen down over time.
