Summer is here, and I’ve been having a blast integrating my Govee devices into my smart home setup!
One of my favorite projects this season has been setting up my backyard with smart lighting and sensors. I’ve added a Govee smart light strip to illuminate my garden at night, and it’s been a game-changer for evening gatherings. The vibrant colors and smooth transitions really set the mood, and controlling everything through my phone is such a breeze!
I also wanted to share a tip for anyone looking to get started with OpenHAB. I recently installed it on my Synology NAS and was initially overwhelmed by all the possibilities. If you’re aiming for something more visually appealing than the default UI, I found the demo sitemap to be a great starting point. However, it took some digging to figure out how to customize it with my own devices. The key was editing the configuration files directly and creating a new sitemap that references my items. It’s a bit technical, but the sense of accomplishment when everything works seamlessly is worth it!
Another thing I’ve been exploring is energy monitoring with the Emporia Vue Integration for Hubitat. Setting it up was straightforward thanks to the detailed GitHub instructions. Now, I can keep an eye on my energy consumption in real-time and even set up custom alerts for high usage. It’s been really helpful for identifying areas where I can be more energy-efficient. Plus, the ability to integrate it with other smart home devices means I can automate certain behaviors based on energy trends.
If you’re looking for some inspiration, I’d love to hear how others are enhancing their outdoor spaces with smart tech. Whether it’s lighting, security cameras, or environmental sensors, there’s so much you can do to make your backyard smarter and more enjoyable. Let’s keep the ideas flowing! ![]()
