Summer Smart Home Setup Ideas and Questions

Hello everyone! I’m really excited to share my thoughts and get some advice on setting up my smart home for the summer. I’ve been using Homematic for a while now, and while I’ve managed to get everything working for the winter, I’m looking to make some adjustments for the warmer months.

Currently, my roller shutters are set to open fully in the morning and close at night based on light sensors or sunset times. This works great in the winter, but now that it’s getting hotter, I want to optimize their operation to keep the apartment cool while still letting in fresh air.

Here’s what I’m thinking:

  • Open the shutters fully in the morning to let the fresh air in.
  • As the sun comes out, start closing the shutters to just a small slit (around 5%) to block the heat but still allow some airflow.
  • Keep the shutters on the balcony fully automatic but ensure they respond to manual overrides.
  • Use the existing HM-Sec-SCo window contacts and HMIP-SLO light sensors to help with automation.

I’m also wondering if I can use the existing system variables to control the shutters more precisely. For example, setting specific times or conditions when the shutters should stay open or close completely.

Has anyone else tackled a similar setup? I’d love to hear about your experiences and any tips or tricks you’ve picked up along the way. Let’s make this summer the coolest one yet! :sunglasses:
