Sunrise and Sunset Automation Success Story

Hi everyone, I wanted to share my success story with setting up a sunrise and sunset automation. After some initial confusion, I finally got it working perfectly!

The Challenge
I wanted my lights to automatically turn off at sunrise and on at sunset. Sounds simple, right? But I was struggling with understanding the correct sensor settings and timing. I tried using the built-in sun sensor, but the timing wasn’t quite right. I kept getting confused with the ‘before sunrise’ and ‘after sunset’ options.

The Solution
After some research and trial and error, I realized I needed to simplify my approach. Instead of using complex conditional logic, I set up two separate automations - one for sunrise and one for sunset. This made the whole setup much cleaner and more reliable.

How It Works

  • Sunrise Automation: Triggers at sunrise to turn off my bedroom lights. This helps me wake up naturally without any harsh light.
  • Sunset Automation: Triggers at sunset to turn on my hallway lights. It’s been a lifesaver for coming home in the dark!

Tips for Others

  1. Start simple - don’t overcomplicate your automations initially.
  2. Use the built-in sun sensor - it’s accurate and reliable.
  3. Test each automation separately before combining them.

The Result
Now, I have a seamless lighting system that adjusts perfectly with the sun’s schedule. It’s made my mornings and evenings so much more enjoyable. I’m excited to explore more advanced automations now that the basics are working flawlessly!

Happy automating everyone! :sun_with_face:
