Hey everyone, I’m new to Vera Lite with UI5 and I’m diving into creating some smart home automations. My latest project is setting up a scene to turn on an Evolve lamp module at sunrise. While this sounds straightforward, it’s been quite the learning experience!
Initially, I tried setting up a timed trigger for sunrise, but I wanted to test it manually before waiting for the sun to come up. I turned off the lamp and clicked ‘Run Scene’, but nothing happened. Frustrated, I tried adjusting the trigger multiple times, only to face the same issue. To make matters worse, when I attempted to manually turn off the light using Homebuddy after dark, it would briefly turn off and then come back on. It was like the light had a mind of its own!
After some research, I realized the issue might be with how the scene was configured. I decided to simplify the setup by creating a basic rule: ‘At sunrise, turn on the Evolve lamp’. This time, I included a debug statement to track the rule’s execution. To my delight, it worked perfectly! The lamp turned on exactly when the sun rose, and I didn’t encounter any unexpected behavior.
This experience taught me the importance of breaking down complex automations into simpler components. By isolating the issue and testing each part, I was able to pinpoint where things were going wrong. Now, I’m confident to tackle more advanced scenarios!
If anyone has tips on optimizing sunrise-based automations or avoiding similar pitfalls, I’d love to hear them. Happy automating everyone! ![]()
