Tado Integration with Electric Heater - A Smooth Solution

Hey everyone! I wanted to share my experience integrating my Tado thermostat with an electric heater. I’ve been using Tado for a while now, and it’s been a fantastic addition to my smart home setup. However, I recently faced a challenge when trying to connect it to an electric heater in one of my rooms.

Initially, I wasn’t sure how to bridge the gap between the Tado thermostat and the heater. After some research and experimentation, I found a neat workaround using a TP-Link Kasa smart plug. Here’s what I did:

  1. Hardware Setup: I plugged the electric heater into the TP-Link Kasa smart plug. This allowed me to control the heater through the Kasa app.

  2. Tado Integration: I paired the Tado thermostat with my smart home hub. The thermostat itself is battery-powered and works seamlessly with my existing setup. It provides accurate temperature readings and allows manual adjustments right from the thermostat.

  3. Rules and Automation: I set up a few simple rules in my hub to automate the process. The rules monitor the temperature reported by the Tado thermostat and toggle the smart plug accordingly. For example, if the temperature drops below a certain threshold, the heater turns on, and it turns off once the desired temperature is reached.

  4. Manual Override: I also added a rule to handle manual adjustments. If I change the target temperature on the Tado thermostat, the system checks the current temperature and adjusts the heater accordingly.

This setup has worked beautifully! The room now maintains a consistent temperature, and I can monitor and adjust everything from my phone or through the Tado app. It’s been especially handy during the colder months.

I’d love to hear if anyone else has tried something similar or has tips for improving this setup. Happy tinkering! :rocket:
