Tado X Temperature Sensor Accuracy Insights and Workarounds

I recently installed the Tado X Smart Radiator Thermostat and connected it to my Home Assistant setup. While exploring its capabilities, I encountered some interesting findings regarding temperature sensor accuracy that I’d like to share with the community. The radiator thermostat is paired with a Tado Wireless Temperature Sensor and a budget-friendly Aqara Temperature and Humidity Sensor. In the same room, I noticed a significant discrepancy in temperature readings between the Tado radiator thermostat and the external sensors. The Tado thermostat often reported lower temperatures at night and higher temperatures during the day compared to the other sensors. Here are my key observations and conclusions:1. The Importance of an External Temperature Sensor: The Tado radiator thermostat’s built-in temperature sensor is not reliable on its own. Pairing it with an external temperature sensor is essential for accurate readings. While the Tado Wireless Temperature Sensor is an option, it’s overpriced compared to alternatives like the Aqara sensor.2. Cheap Sensors Can Be Just as Effective: I discovered that a £8 Aqara sensor performs just as well as the £90 Tado Wireless Temperature Sensor. My plan is to use multiple Aqara sensors and leverage Home Assistant to continuously update the temperature offset. However, note that Home Assistant automations for offset adjustments are limited to Tado V3, and Tado X currently lacks proper support.3. DIY Temperature Offset Automation: Since Home Assistant doesn’t fully support Tado X’s offset feature, I’m exploring writing a custom Python script to handle temperature adjustments. This workaround will allow me to keep the system automated without relying on manual interventions.4. Design Concerns: It’s puzzling that Tado X combines a radiator thermostat with a temperature sensor in one device. A simpler design with a separate, screen-free temperature sensor would have been more effective and cost-efficient.Despite these challenges, I’m committed to making the most of my Tado setup. I’ll continue to share my progress and hope this information helps others avoid unexpected issues or find creative solutions. If anyone has tips or alternative approaches, I’d love to hear them!
