Temperature Sensor Automation Tips and Tricks

Hey everyone, I wanted to share some of my experiences with setting up temperature sensors and automations in my smart home. I’ve been using Homematic for a while now, but I’m starting to explore Matter and other ecosystems to future-proof my setup.

One thing I’ve found really useful is integrating temperature and humidity sensors in different areas of my home, especially in the garage. I’ve been using Homematic sensors, but they’re quite expensive and I’m curious if there are more cost-effective options out there, especially ones that can run on batteries for over 6 months.

I’ve also been experimenting with Home Assistant to create more complex automations. For example, I set up an automation to turn off the heating in a room if the temperature goes above a certain threshold. However, I ran into an issue where the automation was altering the set value, which caused some unexpected behavior. After some research, I figured out how to use temporary variables to store the original set value and revert back after a certain period. It was a bit tricky, but it’s working perfectly now!

Another cool project I’ve been working on is monitoring the energy consumption of my heat pump. The sensors provide a lot of data, but they reset during power outages, which messes up the readings. I’ve been trying to figure out how to aggregate this data over time, even with resets. It’s a bit of a puzzle, but I think I’m close to a solution.

If anyone has tips on integrating different ecosystems or advice on creating more efficient automations, I’d love to hear them! The community here is amazing, and I’m always learning something new.

Happy automating! :rocket:
