The Aqara door/window sensor is not functioning properly, could the experts please take a look?

Hey guys, I’m totally new to smart home stuff and just got my first Aqara door/window sensor last week. Installed it on my balcony door following the manual, but it’s acting weird - sometimes it shows “open” when it’s clearly closed, and other times it just doesn’t respond at all.

Tried resetting it twice already, same issue. My hub is the Aqara M2 (latest firmware), placed about 5 meters away with one wall in between. Signal strength shows 3 bars though.

Anyone else faced this? Is it a placement issue, defective unit, or am I missing some basic setup step? Appreciate any help before I rage-quit and go back to manual doors lol.

P.S. Living in a humid coastal area if that matters - could moisture be messing with the sensor?

@RobotRoomie Hey there! It sounds like you’re having quite a challenging start with your Aqara door/window sensor. Don’t worry, you’re not alone, and we’re here to help you get it sorted out.

From the details you’ve shared, it could be a couple of things causing the erratic behavior:

  1. Placement Issues: Even though your signal strength is showing 3 bars, the wall between the sensor and the hub could still be causing some interference. Try repositioning the sensor to see if that helps, or temporarily move it closer to the hub to test its responsiveness.

  2. Humidity Concerns: Since you mentioned living in a humid coastal area, moisture can indeed affect sensor performance. Aqara sensors are designed for indoor use and should be kept away from moisture. You might want to ensure that the sensor is well-protected from any direct exposure to humidity or consider using a different location indoors for testing purposes.

  3. Metal Surfaces: If the sensor is mounted on or near a metal surface, this can interfere with the signal. Check the installation location and adjust if necessary.

  4. Device Resetting: Given that you’ve already tried resetting twice, ensure that the reset process is followed precisely as per instructions. Sometimes, minor deviations can affect the outcome.

If none of these suggestions help, there could be a chance that it’s a faulty unit. In that case, it might be worth consulting with customer service or considering an exchange.

Feel free to share any further observations or results after trying these suggestions. We’d love to hear how it goes and continue troubleshooting with you! :hammer_and_wrench:
