Thermostat Accuracy and Smart Sensor Integration

Hello community! I wanted to share my experience with the Ecobee thermostat and the smart sensor integration. We recently installed a new Ecobee thermostat with our AC system, and overall, we’re really impressed with its features. However, we’ve encountered an interesting challenge with the temperature readings.

The thermostat consistently shows a lower temperature than the actual room temperature, which can vary by several degrees throughout the day. This has been particularly noticeable during the hotter months. To address this, we moved the smart sensor to a different location, and it provided a more accurate reading. We also confirmed the sensor’s accuracy using a non-Ecobee thermometer.

We tried adjusting the calibration settings, but the inconsistency remained. The thermostat might be off by just 1 degree at times, but other times it can be up to 7 degrees lower. This has led to the AC turning on unnecessarily when the room was already cool. We even had the AC technician inspect the unit, and they applied putty to block any drafts, but that didn’t resolve the issue.

Ultimately, we had the thermostat replaced, but the new one is still reading lower than the actual temperature. The technician suggested that the issue might be related to the home’s insulation, particularly in the attic. We plan to address this later in the year, but I’m curious if others have experienced similar issues and how they resolved them.

In the meantime, we’ve been relying on the smart sensor’s readings for our comfort settings. It’s been working well, but it would be great to have the thermostat itself accurate without having to move the sensor around. If anyone has any tips or solutions, I’d love to hear them! Thanks for your insights!
