With the Aqara W500 thermostat, the heating turns on and off every ~15 seconds in a continuous loop. This behavior only occurs when the external temperature sensor (which I have installed in the floor) is connected.
I’ve already replaced the thermostat once due to this issue (and some others), but the new unit behaves the same way.
Do you have any idea what could be causing this? Could it be a problem with the sensor, firmware, or a compatibility issue?
Hello, I suspect that you have a bad contact with the NTC sensor. When I tested the W500, I artificially turned the NTC sensor On/Off, and the display on the monitor reacted exactly like that. It showed the built-in or wired display. Maybe you have a problem with either the contact or the sensor itself. I can’t shoot a video at the moment (for some unknown reason), the NTC option is disabled (I think temporarily).
Thank you for the reply, I will try a different sensor when I get home from work. Unfortunately, the one I currently have is already embedded in concrete in the floor :-(.
Hello, if you use an NTC sensor to control the temperature of your system, then I think it will suit you. For temperature comparison, the W100 sensor may be very suitable for you, but you need to think about how to place it at the control points. For example, I simply attach a simple Aqara temperature sensor to the pipe with the air intake holes. It shows perfectly, only I make an additional error (experimentally) for the temperature. In general, then give your conditions and the points that you would like to control, I will try to help.
You can even open a separate topic.
There is one caveat, Aqara gives a minimum temperature hysteresis of 0.5 °C (W500). W100 sensor, you can set the sensitivity to 0.2 °C, but in automation 0.5 °C is used.
I think you understand what I wrote.
@rkoperdak did you find a solution to this issue in the end? The native Aqara NTC works fine on my W500 but I would like to use an existing NTC sensor that is built into the wall. It is the same spec as the Aqara one (10kΩ @25°C) but when I connect it I have the same issue with the temperature and humidity jumping around.
Hello, the NTC sensor you have has a different oscillation characteristic depending on the temperature. This is a common problem among users. In your case, only the native Aqara sensor will ensure stable operation of the W500.
In the instructions it says it is compatible with ‘NTC: 10, 50 or 100kΩ @25°C’ which is why I had assumed it was also compatible with non-native probes.
Do you know the specification of the native probe? On the back of the unit it says the Beta Value is 3950K. Do you know the R-T curve or tolerance?
The Meross ground sensor gives very unstable readings, so I switched to using the thermostat’s built-in sensor instead. No way I’m digging up the ground to replace it.”
I have the same problem with constant variations in temperature from 0.2 degrees C to 1.5 degrees C. Setting a wider temperature swing reduces the impact but this cannot be correct behaviour. I cannot change the sensor as it is embedded in the floor but is of the same specification as the Aqara one. Is anyone in Aqara looking into the error?
