Tips for Setting Up Motion Sensors Near Appliances

Hey everyone, I wanted to share a quick tip I discovered while setting up my smart home. I recently installed some mmwave sensors in my laundry area, and I noticed that the sensor was detecting motion even when no one was around. It turned out to be the washing machine running its cycle! At first, I was a bit confused and concerned that the sensor wasn’t working properly.

After some trial and error, I found that adjusting the sensitivity settings on the sensor helped. Lowering the static detection sensitivity to 4 made the sensor less reactive to the vibrations from the washing machine. However, I also realized that the placement of the sensor played a big role. Placing it slightly farther away from the washing machine and angling it away from the appliance helped reduce false detections.

If anyone else is experiencing similar issues, here are a few tips that might help:

  • Experiment with sensitivity settings: Start with the default settings and adjust them based on your environment.
  • Consider placement: Keep sensors away from areas with frequent vibrations or movement from appliances.
  • Use motion sensor apps: Some apps can help you visualize the sensor’s detection range and adjust accordingly.

It’s amazing how a little tweaking can make such a big difference! Let me know if anyone has other tips or experiences to share. Happy smart home setup everyone!
