TP-Link Gains Matter Certification for Kasa and Tapo Brands

Recently, TP-Link announced that they have received Matter certification for their Kasa and Tapo brands. This is great news for the smart home community as it means more devices will be compatible with the Matter standard, enhancing interoperability across different ecosystems like Apple HomeKit, Amazon Alexa, and Google Assistant.

The first product to hit the shelves in 2023 will be a smart plug, which has already passed UL testing for North America. This plug will most likely use Wi-Fi, aligning with TP-Link’s existing product lineup. Following this, TP-Link plans to release a range of smart home products, including power strips, smart switches, smart bulbs, and even a smart home hub that can connect non-Matter-compatible sensors to the Matter network.

Both the Kasa and Tapo apps will be updated to support Matter, making it easier for users to integrate their devices into a unified smart home system. This expansion is expected to include more device categories as the Connectivity Standards Alliance (CSA) incorporates additional product types into the Matter standard, such as robot vacuums, video doorbells, and security cameras.

This certification is a significant step forward for TP-Link, demonstrating their commitment to innovation and compatibility in the smart home space. It’s exciting to see how this will enhance the functionality and user experience for those who rely on TP-Link’s products.
